webSNAPS: Walk-throughs
ExampleData.mdb. The examples and step-by-step guides on this page refer to a sample Microsoft Access Database which can you download here.
Example 1 - Simple Sales Search. The simplest possible example which creates an application for browsing a small set of sales data. Demonstrates the fundamental Query > List > View functionality of webSNAPS.
Example 2 - Adding a chart. The simplest charting example. Takes the sample application that was created in the first example and modifies it to add a bar chart.
Example 3 - Adding axis labels. Takes the sample chart that was created in the second example and highlights how the axis labels can be altered.
Example 4 - Basic Mapping. The simplest mapping example. Uses a table of postcodes in the example database to create a map of some of the sports clubs around parts of Staffordshire.
Example 5 - Advanced Mapping. A more advanced mapping walk-through. Uses a table of postcodes to create map showing locations of General Practices around Sandwell. Areas of Sandwell are then shaded in to illustrate the breakdown into smaller geographical wards within Sandwell.
Example 6 - Mapping with Data. A more advanced mapping walk-through. Uses the boundaries map created in example 5 and adds another thematic layer showing each Sandwell ward in a different colour. The colour of each ward is driven by underlying data and represents the percentage of the population of each ward who smoke.
Example 7 - Securing with a username and password. A simple walk-through which takes the Sales sample application from the first example and protects it with a username and password.
Example 8 - Basic drilling. A more advanced walk-through which creates a hierarchy of pages allowing the web site user to drill down levels of detail in the source data and view a summary of the data at each level.
Example 9 - Adding a chart to a drilling application. A more advanced walk-through which takes the drilling application created in example 8 and changes it to show a breakdown by product at each level of the drill hierarchy. A chart is then added to present this visually.
Example 10 - Add action links to a map pin. A mapping walk-through which takes the Sports Clubs mapping application created in example 4 and adds links to another web-based system next to each pin.
